This series of paintings are rendered in the style of botanical illustration. The Carnivorous Beauties are a combination of carnivorous plants and flowering plants. This hybridization enables the carnivorous plants to be more effective in catching their prey. The paintings include the potential prey for each plant, and the plants’ hybrid Latin names. The circular and oval formats make the paintings more object-like and recall Victorian era cameos, and a nostalgic and romantic sensibility towards nature that is then combined with a more future geared notion of plant evolution
